Final 2 Headliners

We still have to be looking at two knock-out awesome, fairly powermetal-heavy headliners.

Now that Glenn has -- not surprisingly -- ruled out Therion and Ayreon (in other threads), almost all of the bands I can think of that would be headliner-status have already toured the States, at least to some degree. Iced Earth, Blind Guardian, Rhapsody.... Who else is left? Angra again? Stratovarius again?

Without repeating a band: Iced Earth, Rhapsody, HammerFall, and Helloween.

Im in the same boat, terribly boring band and have even gotten worse as time moves on

+infinity. While I wouldn't MIND seeing Iced Earth get the nod, I certianly would be indifferent at this point. I'm already sold 50 times over this year, and IE would do nothing for me either way. I'd probably give them a chance to bore me live, and then hang out with Elvenking and Iron Savior.

What about Dragonforce?

What ABOUT dragonforce? They're rediculiously accessable already, tour the states almost non-stop, and do not have the seal of approval for PP from either the majority of fans or the promoter. I'd like to see them live, but wouldn't want to pay more than $25 (with surcharges) to see them.

From a financial standpoint, it would be a terrible idea to book them as a headliner, since thats where the fence tip usually comes into play, and no one is going to travel to Atlanta for a band who has already played in their Garage.

Interesting isn't it? Some of their critics say they keep making the same album, and the others say that they're now less progressive and boring. Obviously it can't be both.

'Legendary Tales' through to 'Power Of The Dragonflame' were all standard bombastic Rhapsody Power Metal. That make 4 of the same album. However, 'The Dark Secret' EP and 'Symphony Of The Enchanted Lands; Part II' had a lot more Progressive elements. I agree with Cheiron that 'Triumph or Agony' seems to stress composition over virtuosity. Whether that means it sucks, or makes it boring or not, is a matter of opinion.

In any event the "same album" theory doesn't hold up IMO.

Everything up to SOEL II imo you could show someone one of the albums and basically say you've shown them all of them. However, with SOEL II I think they certianly focused more on the symphonic aspect of the music. The guitars were certainly not as forward as they usually are and there was a lot of choral driven parts. ToA...imo...is not good at all. I like Rhapsody, but I found the album to kind of drag. I need to go back and listen again, but when I first got it it just didn't click and I haven't touched it since then.

But for a long time you could say that rhapsody repeated albums...because they all did sound very similar. now I can't say that because the last two efforts were actually shifting to something else.

Either way...I'm going to listen to ToA again today. And Rhapsody would be a good headliner for IX.

Iced Earth/COB/Evergrey on the Glorious Burden tour
Apr. 29 - BB King's – New York, NY
May 01 - Palladium – Worcester, MA

:kickass:

Well, alrighty then dude!! I didn't discover BBK's until like last year. & had no clue what kinda club it was. But, tat plasce in MA.?? HA! They deserve way laregr venues than THAT! We have a great theater in CT.; or 2 rather. he Bushnell in Hartford, & the Oakdale (now called some crap about a Chevy)-in Wallingford Anyway, hardly a Nation-Wide tour, don't you think?

Iced Earth bores you??? WOW!! That's FUCKED up!

So,.....just because a band has headlined, or practically headlined-(I.E.)-the USA, they are no good for PPUSA?? Yeah, that makes sense!??

Since when is this fest solely for introing bands to this country?? I don't get it!??

They deserve way larger venues than The Palladium?

I'd argue that Nightwish is a larger draw now, than Iced Earth was then.

And I'm not even quite certain Nightwish sold out The Palladium last weekend. By the looks of the line, they came damn close if they didn't, but I have no confirmation that they did (There were plenty of tickets at the door but there were a lot of people buying tickets there).

As much as I would love to say that every Metal show I go to at The Palladium is a sellout, I'd be lieing if I said so. We just don't have a scene here that would dictate larger venues for bands such as Iced Earth, Nightwish, Edguy, etc. (I believe the Palladium's capacity is just under 2,000, but don't quote me on that)

The Bushnell is a Performing Arts Center. All I see on their upcoming events is plays and the like. I don't think you're quite likely to see Iced Earth there.

As for Chevrolet Theater.

It has a schedule of Duran Duran, Jethro Tull, and Playhouse Disney Live! On Tour, among other things.

I've also looked at seating charts/images of both venues.

As much as I'd like to see Iced Earth fill those up...

I severely doubt it, especially in our area.

As for it "hardly being a nationwide tour", it had 24 dates in 18 states, and 2 dates in Canada.

By comparison, Nightwish's current U.S. tour had 21 dates in 16 states, and 2 dates in Canada.

I'd consider it Nationwide. It didn't hit every state, but look at the logical (and financial) side of things. Tours from these bands CAN'T hit every state.

So, if you want to see a band you like, you're going to have to deal with it.

Do you not understand the concept of drawing power?

OH, and I also have another bone to pick with Mr. "Anti-Metal State"!

Connecticut is an Anti-Metal state?

How about you look into WEBSTER THEATER in Hartford?

It got the recent U.S. tours from Epica, Edguy, Katatonia, ChthoniC, and plenty others I can't currently think of (Tours that Mass DIDN'T get)

It has the following Metal shows scheduled: Enslaved, Vader, Obituary, Trail of Tears, Sonata Arctica, Rotting Christ, Exodus, and Nightwish. That's from December to May. I'll tell you, if any place in my state got that many metal shows I wouldn't be calling my state the "Anti Metal State" like you are. I live in Rhode Island. We get virtually nothing. Good thing Mass is around the corner.

Iced Earth would have to be one of the choices for headliners..Could u imagine hearing them in the confines of Earthlink..they would lay waste...One of the premier Power metal bands in the world and being American it would only make sense that Iced earth plays progpower one of these days./..Only thing that might be a problem is they may be touring around that time:Smug:
Totally:headbang:

HAMMERFALL, anyone?!

Coming from someone who travels usually 2-3 hrs for shows within her own state, you'll get no sympathy from me about bitching that a show doesn't come to the immediate area. I went to school in Hartford. It's even more centralized to all the best venues in the northeast than Albany is and Webster (as pointed out by someone else) is getting quite a few shows. I saw Opeth there with Devin Townsend a few days before I was supposed to see Sonata before that got canceled the day of the show. The upcoming schedule is looking awesome, too. Even Toad's Place every now and then has a few good shows. Then you have The Chance, Palladium, BB Kings, and more within 2 hrs.
And to call Palladium a small venue is quite the shocker. It's much larger than Centerstage from what I can tell and BB King's is probably a third the size of the Palladium. The reason they don't play larger venues is because they don't even sell out places the size of the Palladium. Why go to a larger venue in an area where the genre isn't as popular? I'd rather a band play NYC or Boston over Albany when I know they'll pull a few hundred because little besides rap and country do well.

The Palladium is cavernous. Any metal band who can headline a place like that and get a decent draw should consider themselves fortunate. A band who can outgrow a venue that size is probably ready for stadiums.
