Of course I do not condone this, but I sure as hell hope you feel the same way about the hostages that got beheaded on video...

Actually, I say fuck the insurgents that beheaded them. I thought that was an example of how cruel humans can be.

Believe me, I despised that as much as I despised anything else in my whole fucking life.

I'd go for Hillary.

The only difference between a Democratic foreign policy and a Republican foreign policy is that the Democrats are given the benefit of the doubt when they go to war and Republicans are accused of bad intentions.

Hillary Clinton, despite what Republican talking heads say about her, gets it. She knows the nature of the enemy and she's going to pound them into dust with just as much determination as Bush does. Only she'll be liked more in Europe, where style beats substance any day. From the day Bush took office, they were on his case about his inability to articulate. Hillary will say all the right things, Europeans will swoon, and meanwhile we'll be doing exactly the same thing we're doing now.

Of course, I'd rather have McCain or Giuliani, but I'm not sure Republicans are smart enough to give me that choice. They'll probably nominate some religious nut and I'll be thrown into the arms of the lovely Hillary.

NO, Swedes don't give there fingerprints for ANYTHING at all. Never. Nope. Nada. Won't happen.
I think that they take some blood for some DNA-register, but that's it. (I don't really know how the dna-thing works, if it even exists - I could be lying )
ROTFLMAO, is that really true? I just love self-ridiculing irony, especially when it's unintentional. So figure prints are sacred but DNA samples are OK? And this is something the govt does to its own citizens, as opposed to visiting foreigners?

McCain. I think he's the best candidate, short of a Libertarian, for many reasons. As for Giuliani, I've changed my mind of him. The way he whored himself for Bush in '04 was beyond repugnant. He can't stand Bush, yet he is so desperate to become President, he's willing to be the GOPs bitch. No thanks.

As for Hilary, she's unelectable, so it doesn't really matter. For any woman to become President, she'll need to cary the female vote my an overwhelming margin (which in and of itself is pretty sad). Hilary would be lucky yo get 50% of the female vote.

So, how accurate are the events and the overwhelming violence (mostly via firearms) shown in the movie City of God? That movie -- based heavily on actual events and written by someone who was there -- makes any US barrio or ghetto look tame in comparison. It was a hell of an eye-opener and an excellent film.

If your answer is something like "B-B-B-But that's one small area of our country, it's not like that everywhere!" then I have to laugh at the examples you put in your post.

So many overseas folks picture the US as this place where every person carries a gun, where car-chases happen routinely, where drug-deals go down on every corner....in short, they picture America as being something that Hollywood created because that's where their primary exposure to American 'culture' has come from.

I saw this sort of misperception of America while I was over in Europe and in the UK, over and over again. I live in a large US city and it just ain't like that here...let alone out in the more peaceful hinterlands.

America ain't Hollywood.....and thank all the gods for that!

A little bit, late but anyway... LOL

City of God was a GREAT movie..
It pissed off a lot of people in Brazil, because it was one of the few brazilian movies that got some sort of international recognition and it was showing THAT side of Brazil, that's never shown...
People were irritated because it could possibly affect tourism and give a wrong idea about Brazil and bla bla bla..

But City of God is REAL! It exists, it;s like that... It changed a lot, since that movie was based on the 70's. There is a bit for infrastructure, etc.. But the violence hasn't changed.

Brazil has no desire of showing that to the world.. We could say it's just as biased as the American media.. It's a different type bias, but it is a bias nonetheless..

excuse me?

A piece of artwork, funded by the government, that had Christ on the Cross in urine. Caused quite a bit of anger, but no rioting. Do you think the artist should have been punished? How about Salman Rushdie? Theo Van Gogh?

Eh, that's politics. They've gotta be team players, that's what being in a political party entails. You could tell that the Clintons were none too happy with Dean being the frontrunner and weren't much happier to be stumping for Kerry. But in the end, you either get on board or leave the party.

As for Hilary, she's unelectable, so it doesn't really matter

I think you'll be surprised. She'll do just fine, although if the GOP nominates one of the two superstars she has no chance. But if they throw Frist, or (ugh!) Santorum out there, I think she wins.

I think a Hilary vs. Condi Rice slugfest would be incredibly entertaining.

Of course, the aftermath -- regardless of the eventual winner -- is left as an exercise for the reader. :tickled:

Hey, isn't that what you guys do all the time regarding the whole world? Didn't you make an assumption regarding my country based on what you saw on the movie City of God?

Nope. City of God was based on one (presumably small and self-contained? let's hope!) ghetto area, but as Angrafan pointed out, your government was concerned that the wrong message would get out about Brazil from people generalizing from what's portrayed in the movie. (I HAVE to assume things aren't like that all over Brazil, or people wouldn't see Rio as a tourist mecca. :))

My original point is still valid, I think: people's perceptions, whether gleaned from movies or biased news-sources, tend to override reality, regardless of which side of the Pond -- or the Equator -- you come from.

Oh yeah, like the US news-media is not biased at all... Gimme a break.

Fuck no, they're biased as all hell. Fox leans to the right, and damned near everyone else leans to the left. That's Journalism 101 in the USA.

I doubt she'd win the nomination. If memory serves correctly, she barely won in NY, which is one of the more liberal states in the U.S.

Zod's right; no way Hill would win the nomination, much less the election. She's way too polarizing--people love her or really, really hate her for the most part.

Shaye

(You guys do realize we had a first couple named Hill and Billy, right?)

PoS...I don't hate them OR love them, but you gotta say...

By the way, has anyone considered the possibility that Daniel is a terrorist, and that's why he doesn't want to be fingerprinted? Perhaps it's all part of some evil plot, to distract us with really annoying music, while taking over the country.
