One more band to guess....

Really? I would think that their mid-90s releases were prog essentials that would put them in the class of Conception.
Maybe it's just personal preference, but I don't view them as being in the same class as Conception. I don't see nearly the reverance for them or the amount of conversation about them, as I did/do for Conception.

Not a true headliner, but if we're making a headliner this year they could qualify.
Brainstorm is a band with incredible stage presence, a dynamic frontman and anthemesque songs, who could tear the roof off that place. They could step into that headliner spot quite easily, even if their place in the Metal heirarchy doesn't dictate they should be a headliner. Eldritch, in my estimation, would be playing to a Rage-sized crowd.

Eldritch might put on a great show. But yeah. I can't see a large number of people staying for their set to give them the chance.

I agree completely. Problem is, that would create a record number of repeats. I'd have to think Glenn would avoid that unless he had no other options. And if you're going to book a repeat, why not go for a true headliner like Symphony X or Edguy?

I see your point but could it be that maybe Glenn tried for those bands and they already had prior plans? Maybe the reason why he wants to create a headliner is to try and give a band like Brainstorm the recognition they deserve. I think it's fair to say bands like SymX have already established themselves as headlining material and maybe Glenn just wants to give other deserving bands that same opportunity...Also, wasn't Andy sick for awhile and unable to tour? IMO, it would be great to get the band back in touring activities and giving them a headlining show on US soil.

Problem is, we've already got three repeats. And plenty of near headliner bands that haven't played yet. I'd think Glenn's looking for a band of near headliner caliber who hasn't played yet. Like Heavenly, or Freedom Call, or Labyrinth. Or Eldritch.

This just might be personal preference, but I would think that only Labyrinth would even be considered out of that last.

With Heavenly's new album, and the awesomeness of Dust to Dust, I think they'd be right there with Labyrinth. Freedom Call is a bit of a reach, but at least they have a lot of material and name recognition.

I agree with you that Heavenly's new album and their last were absolutely great albums. I just dont see them being higher than a 2 or 3 at best, I just hear no talk about them at all. Freedom Call is just slightly gay.

Freedom Call headlining would definitely be that "jump the shark" moment Glenn expressed concern about. A 2 slot, maybe.

I'd love that, but look how many repeats we have already. Personally, I'd rather NOCTURNAL RITES, ICED EARTH, HELLOWEEN, or anyone else different. If we did have another repeater, I'd kill to have THERION. If anyone deserves to headline this fest, it's them. But, I would really prefer someone new.

Concur! But since Therion are ruled out by Glenn's 'no repeats within two years' rule (as are Orphaned Land :( ), I wouldn't mind seeing Brainstorm, Symphorce or a combination of the two. No question in my mind that Brainstorm could hold down a headlining slot after Primal Fear with ease.

I don't know about anyone else on this board but I consider myself pretty young. 25. And Ive been on this board for a few years now and Ive never got a chance to come to one of these parties yet because until I wasnt able to drop the cash...well now I can and as much as touring has improved many of the HUGE Power bands (Gamma Ray, Edguy, Stratovarius etc...) dont do US tours and if they do its not a full tour that most can see. So for people in my situation that couldn't be there from the begining like some of you, I welcome the repeats because for me and some other guy out there...They aren't repeats at all....So I say bring em on!

GAMMA RAY!!!!!

That's why I don't think having repeats is all that big a deal. Plus, is it really a repeat if they have new material to play?

I wouldn't care if they were all repeats. I just think it's unlikely that Glenn would have four because of his emphasis on breaking new bands in the US.

I am in your same boat as I didnt start attending until PP VI, so I missed Nightwish, Rage, Symphony X, Gamma Ray, Edguy, WoMD, etc. I would love to see any of the above mentioned bands but it aint happening though

If Freedom Call headlined that would be pretty cool :)
I have 3 albums of theirs, everyone can say they have atleast heard of them
But there problem is I hear more people saying they hate freedom call when they get mentioned than if they like them. 2 of the Freedom Call CDs I have were given to me from a big power metal fan. :(
