PP USA VIII: Final Band confirmed

Is After Forever bigger than Primal Fear? I would think PF would be the headliner over AF. But then again I'm not big on them. Nightwish is the only one of these type bands I really love. The others seem like poor copies to me.

This is a co-headline situation. Primal Fear do sell more records here in the States obviously, but I once again will repeat what I have said in several other threads. The key to the last spot at this specific festival is crossover appeal and keeping people in the seats. The prog fans will stick around for AF, but not so much PF in the last slot.

Check out Floor's outfit in this one .. pretty revealing, although it could make Mr. Blackwell's list of worst outfits.

No one is worse than the guy who used to narrate for Rhapsody.
It's the same guy ... Jay Lansford. He is the goof that screws up the spoken word parts on Invisble Circles, and is also the guy that used to do the narration for Rhapsody. Christopher Lee is the guy that currently does the work for Rhapsody. He's pretty darn good.

You really seem to not know a lot of After Forever if you say they're "copies" of Nightwish... Have you even checked their latest material? It sounds nothing like Nightwish dude, come on now...

l'm an admitted prog head...even extreme to some extent...and l don't see AF fulfilling the prog need. Do they have elements? Somewhat. But, l would never put them in the same classification as Dream Theater, Fates Warning, or Redemption (a few bands whom l think epitomizes the genre). Especially when you throw in the operatic female vocals & the harsh vocals too. They also have power elements, but l wouldn't call them power metal either.
But, l do applaud the "new blood" choice.

Dude...l hate to break this off in you, but they're alot like Nightwish. Only Nightwish is better...or was with Tarja. But, l like Marco's vocals too and AF doesn't have that good a male vocalist. So, AF is a step down IMO. No offense.

"Invisible Circles" (their best album IMO) is quite a progressive album I think. There are some progressive songs in all their other albums as well.

After Forever are a lot like Nightwish? Well, I respect your opinion saying that Nightwish are better (though I strongly disagree), but After Forever doesn't sound like Nightwish at all. The fact that they use orchestrations, classical chois and have a female lead singer doesn't make a band sound like Nightwish. After Forever's music contains different melodies, it's less bombastic, more progressive, more extreme and IMO much more exciting when it comes to song structures and dynamics than Nightwish. Floor's voice is a million times more versatile than Tarja's.

Furthermore, I've seen both bands live and AF beats Nightwish in every aspect. Don't get me wrong, I like Nightwish but AF is far from being just another female fronted metal band.

I think a large portion of what makes Floor better is she cares about her contribution to the band. She's a member of the band through and through. Tarja really was nothing more than the hired singer and face of Nightwish.
And I do agree that Floor's voice has a lot more versatility. When Nightwish moved away from the opera vocals into more of a pop/rock vocal style, I really missed the opera vocals. Mostly because I really didn't care for Tarja's pop/rock vocal style.
Now in regard to CLOTHING style... That's another matter. I often wonder what Floor is thinking. Still, it's not going to make me love the music any less.
Also, who's male vocals are you comparing? They USED to have Mark (who to his own admittance isn't that good a growler). He left to do Epica. Now they've got another guy who I think sounds awesome. Just listen to No Control or Attendence off Reimagine. The growls have improved so much. Bas also sounds great doing the clean vocals on a song like Forever with Floor.

Also not sure how anyone can call AF a clone of Nightwish. They used to have a lot more in common with Theatre of Tragedy if anything with the doom metal influences.

np. Star One - Valley of the Queens.

l could use the same elements to point out my preference of NW over AF. Of course Marco's vocals set NW apart in that aspect. l'll take exception with the progressiveness, l don't buy that with either band. Floor's voice may be somewhat more versatile, but she still relies heavily on the operatic and that alone pits her against Tarja & she won't win that battle. l guess we will agree to disagree.

Do you really think so? Only the older AF albums contain lots of operatic vocals. Remagine and Invisible Circles are about 80-85 % rock female vocals.

But my point was that, wheter you prefer Nightwish or not, AF are not a copy of them at all. They're a completely different band.

I don't know man.. After Forever sounds a lot different than Nightwish, especially the newer material, in Remagine and Invisible Circles. They do have similarities I think in the older stuff, but calling them a step down is a rough statement imo. AF is heavier than Nightwish and does not rely mostly on operatic vocals, like Nightwish does. Marco is a good singer, but Sander is a killer of a growler. It's a different approach to male vox as far as I'm concerned. And I know I may get flamed for saying this, but here we go.. Tarja is a great operatic vocalist. Floor is a great metal vocalist. I think Floor offers more than Tarja does, Tarja can't kick ass like Floor in a song such as Face Your Demons (on Remagine). Then again, to each their own. I am an After Forever fan who likes some Nightwish. To me, the bigger (and much better) female fronted band is After Forever, and it seems this wont change.

We all can disagree and it's cool we can make this in a peaceful way this time. So far... lol

Agreed 100%.

EDIT: Oh yeah and I almost forgot.. Floor is a KILLER frontwoman, way more so than Tarja. Check out some of her live videos online!! She was born to be a rock/metal singer, while Tarja belongs inside a theatre standing there singing Opera. (Sorry, but I had to be honest now).

Somewhat more? Listen to a song like Strong from Reimagine or her singing Valley of the Queens live (w/ I believe her sister) for Star One. Now listen to Tarja sing Walking in the Air or Sleeping Sun (especially the live version)
"Oh hoooowwwu I wish to go down with the sun" indeed. I love Tarja but I find them equals in "opera" voice and Tarja EXTREMELY lacking in "normal" voice.
