The festival headliner next year....

Opeth doing long exclusive shows is extremely redundant at this point.
I seriously doubt that would draw anyone in.
Just my opinion.

Maybe Helloween?
My guess is by next fall is about when their US tour would be, assuming they do one.

They can do a regular set, and then end with UNARMED in its entirety.

They do put on long headline shows. However, I highly doubt it's them. I would love it to be, but I think it's still too soon for the headliner to be a growly band as a lot of the fans that go to Progpower aren't the biggest fans of that style.
Amorphis headlined and I dare say they are a bit on the growly side. ;) I love Opeth, but I do agree I don't think they will be a headliner due to their already extensive exposure touring the U.S. I think Blind Guardian or Angra is a safer bet.

Why so everyone can leave??? That album is a ROYAL TURD!

True. Forgot about that for some reason. Probably because most of their live material isn't growly. Though, the Saturday headliner usually is THE headliner of the fest. Angra is good and all that, but with their current lineup, are they all that popular anymore?

Angrarules in 5..4..3..2..

i am sticking with a special OPETH anniversary set or something. my logic on a 2 hour headliner. has to be someone with either a wealth of catalog material OR long ass songs. my other guess is SAXON.

I've lost all hope. Glenn doesn't seem to be enjoying the new material. :(

</3

No wonder. The new material is garbage. PoS deserves a 2 hour, headlining spot at ProgPower. I personally think the contract should explicitly say that they're not allowed to play anything off the new album, with the exception of Linoleum and Sisters.

Yes, I was obviously joking about UNARMED.
Maybe some sort of Helloween set with guest appearances by former members (IE - Kiske, Hansen, Roland G, etc).

Opeth, seriously? They already did so many anniversary shows.
Just my opinion, but I don't see the appeal whatsoever.

Now SAXON would be amazing, but based on anything I have ever read from Glen, my guess (and I could be 100% incorrect) is that SAXON are no more than a joke band to him. I would be shocked if he were to ever book them, let alone have them as a headliner. Furthermore, as much as I like SAXON, I have never heard of their appearances at various US festivals these past couple years resulting in people coming out of the woodwork for.

Or Road Salt and Innocence. I dig the album, but really not looking to hear any songs live except for the ones mentioned.

But hell, I'd be willing to to see the whole thing if it meant the other hour was an acoustic set similar to 12:5.

Baah, it was pretty damn awesome.

The classical renditions of some of their songs (including the Keeper trilogy medley) are over the top fantastic!

The "big band" type of tunes are fun and interesting. If you don't like "fun" in your music, then skip those tracks and focus on the classical / orchestrated songs.

Oh, and Andy Deris sings better on this disc than ever before. The new version of "A Tale ..." is incredible.

You know, I can actually stand those two songs. I wouldn't mind them.

As for a 12:5 set, that would RULE!!!!

Amen brother!
Great to finally have studio versions of Kiske era material by Mr. Deris.

I think what turned off a lot of people was marketing that album around the remake of Dr. Stein, which in my opinion is the worst track on the album.

There are some damn fine remakes on that disc.

i guess no one was there when 50% of the crowd left for Pain Of Salvation's set a few years ago after they were forced (by BG) to follow Blind Guardian? how could they even be considered a headliner?

i do love their old stuff and was one of the remaining 50% in the room despite it being like 50 degrees. i remember freezing my ass off watching them.

I guess you weren't there, since there was clearly more than 50% of the crowd in the room.

I'd say maybe a quarter left, but 50% is a bit much....

I wasn't there but any band who follows Blind Guardian's first US appearance would've probably had the same effect.
I was there for 2004 and I thought they were well-received (especially by me, first and only time I've been able to see my favorite band).

I think we should know who the headliner is NOT...maybe a list of ten or so from Glenn.
And by that I mean...he could say band X is NOT headlining...but that does not mean the band isn't playing!

It just means the band isn't headlining...muahahah
